Healthy Regions – When well-being creates economic growth

The Healthy Regions project was an “action research” project, and was therefore highly process oriented and pragmatic in its approach, supported by the European Public Helath Programme (2007-2010).

The main objective of the project was to develop different practical tools, within an overall concept for “Healthy Regions”

The project aimed to put health on the political agenda of regions in Europe, thus addressing the need to assist regions in looking at public health and prevention initiatives in a more strategic way, as an investment instead of a cost. The project developed, tested and implemented good practice methodologies that can assist regions to identify their key competences and overall challenges within public health, bring these high on the political agenda and work strategically to become “Healthy Regions”, through an exchange of good experiences and practices among the participating European regions and action-learning on regional and local level.
